Star Citizen localized

Below we have a translated Spectrum post from Zyloh-CIG. This discusses the possibility of adjusting language files. Feel free to check out our Tools Channel on Discord for community created translations.

Below is the translation

Hello everyone,

Localization of Star Citizen is crucial to support our truly global community. To achieve this, we have a team of dedicated localization specialists at Cloud Imperium, who continue to work long-term on the development of official language options for Star Citizen.

While these official initiatives are underway and making good progress, we are truly inspired by the unwavering dedication of our resourceful community, who have already proactively translated significant parts of the game.

To show our support for these enthusiastic community translators and to help those eager to embark on their own translation journey while waiting for official localizations, we have taken some steps to facilitate the current process for tinkering with these translations.

For our localization community: We now allow the use of a localized global.ini file for translations, which is supported by a variety of new fonts. Instructions for inserting translation files into your Star Citizen directories can be found below.

Technical steps

Create a new folder in the following directory: \StarCitizen\LIVE\data\Localization\New Folder

Rename the folder to one of the following:

  • chinese_(simplified)
  • chinese_(traditional)
  • english
  • french_(france)
  • german_(germany)
  • italian_(italy)
  • japanese_(japan)
  • korean_(south_korea)
  • polish_(poland)
  • portuguese_(brazil)
  • spanish_(latin_america)
  • spanish_(spain)

Place your previously translated global.ini file in the new folder.

Add a line from below of CVAR into your "user.cfg".

  • g_language = chinese_(simplified)
  • g_language = chinese_(traditional)
  • g_language = english
  • g_language = french_(france)
  • g_language = german_(germany)
  • g_language = italian_(italy)
  • g_language = japanese_(japan)
  • g_language = korean_(south_korea)
  • g_language = polish_(poland)
  • g_language = portuguese_(brazil)
  • g_language = spanish_(latin_america)
  • g_language = spanish_(spain)

After updating, start the game as usual. Please note that the ability to edit the global.ini file is experimental for us and is likely to cause problems. We will closely monitor the situation to see how things develop and are working on updating/improving support as resources become available. As the official localization mentioned above is still in progress, we do not expect to focus on minor corrections/improvements at this time.

Note: If you do not have a "user.cfg", you can create one:

  • Create a text document file and rename it as "user.txt"
  • Change the file extension from .txt to .cfg
  • Place the "user.cfg" under: \StarCitizen\LIVE
  • You can open and edit the "user.cfg" with Notepad or other text editors

Note that textures/signage/3D/Inner Thought texts are not supported at this time.

It's important to mention that while the Star Citizen community is rich in talented individuals who have created translation packages and resources, these were not officially created by our team. They should be viewed as third-party contributions, and we advise users to exercise caution and use them at their own discretion.

We hope you find this short term update helpful and we will share more information about the future of official localization once we have it. Until then, we would like to express our sincere thanks to our passionate community for their incredible dedication and support in making Star Citizen accessible to players around the world.

Thanks to @SpaceMarhalKaiZar for the hint and upload of the user.cfg (see on our Discord)
